Project Description

The Innovation Building located on the main campus entrance, the aim for the university and the companies housed there is to enable collaboration between commercial and academic researchers. The Building also houses a multi-storey car park for the estate and a distribution centre for campus-wide deliveries. These now help reduce the through-traffic on campus, which had previously created and unfriendly environment for pedestrians. SCL contributed to the new development by carrying out a £850k internal joinery & fit-out package under a JCT Design & Build Subcontract.

The bespoke timber wall linings running up the atrium wall from ground to roof were a stand out feature for the project. Accurate setting out was imperative to ensure all the slats line up with the timber and glass doors as well as the M&E interfaces that were incorporated within them. This accuracy in setting out also needed to be taken through so that the bespoke timber benches also lined up perfectly with the atrium wall they were installed against.
