Project Description

Barking Riverside is a mixed-use development which will include 10,800 homes. To provide adequate transport links, the London Overground Gospel Oak to Barking line was extended to Barking Riverside, and a new stop was added on the river for the Thames Clipper boats.

Swift Crafted carried out the carpentry including joists and decking to the boardwalk and larch cladding. We had to allow for long lead in periods for sourcing of specified timber products which were not typically in stock on the UK market and had to be shipped to the UK.

The decking boards were constructed to accommodate slip resistant inserts manufactured by Gripdeck to ensure safety of the public travelling to the boats.

One of the interesting components was the incorporation of lead surrounded viewing windows which had to be openable for cleaning purposes.

We also trialled using a drone to capture footage of our progress on this project which was an exciting use of technology. However, the weather was never kind on the days we had the drone available so several images and videos where a grey and cloudy.

This was a great project to be involved in working alongside McLaughlin and Harvey and Anthony Carlile Architects.
