Project Description
The Barlby Road Schools complex was built on behalf of The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for the surrounding Ladbroke Grove area. The development comprises two separate schools:
- Barlby Primary School, supporting 357 children between ages 3 & 11.
- A special educational needs school providing specialist support to children and adolescents, utilizing the latest technology and equipment.
Swift Crafted delivered the carpentry, joinery, and fixed furniture packages for this project. With a fully committed and driven group of carpenters and managers, the project was completed to a high standard, gaining much praise from the client.
Working closely with our Supply Chain, Swift Crafted designed and installed state-of-the-art teachers’ walls and kitchens. We also installed large folding partitions, which allow the two schools to be closed off or open at the touch of a button.
Scope of Works
Joinery & Fit-out works including:
- Timber internal doors, screens & ironmongery
- Folding partitions
- Roller shutters, fire shutters & fire curtains
- Sanitaryware & tiling
- IPS cubicle & vanity units
- Timber slatted acoustic panelling
- Kitchens & kitchen appliances
- Specialist sensory equipment
- Shelving & window seats
- Reception desks
Sensory Room & Acoustic Panelling
We are particularly proud of our sensory room fit-out, which involved installing and carefully calibrating high-tech equipment to provide a room for children with special educational needs to enjoy and explore. Items within these rooms included a range of light projectors, sensory lights, wall padding, ball pits, and rope swings.
The most challenging element of the project was the installation of our timber acoustic panelling due to its complexity. Additionally, we had to install this in the atrium, which created more challenges in terms of working at height. Despite these obstacles, we were able to produce high-quality panelling that has become one of the schools’ main features.
Overall, this was an enjoyable and successful project that Swift Crafted were proud to be part of. The residents of Ladbroke Grove will benefit from the amazing facilities for years to come.
