Project Description

The National Satellite Testing Facility is a pioneering four-storey building, the first of its kind in the UK, designed to support the assembly, integration, and testing of satellites destined for space.

Swift Crafted delivered the internal joinery fit-out package, which included the installation of timber and metal doorsets, IPS toilet systems, and acoustic internal screens and windows. These specialist elements provided high acoustic resistance to office areas overlooking the main testing hall, ensuring both functionality and comfort within this highly technical environment. A key feature of the facility is its large compression chamber, located at ground level, designed for rigorous testing processes such as heat and vibration trials.

As a landmark project for the UK’s science sector, the site received a visit from British astronaut Tim Peake, who brought along the first prototype of the Mars Rover.
