Project Description

Situated on the southern side of Battersea Park Road, close to the landmark Battersea Power Station redevelopment, Palmerston Court is one of the largest Passivhaus Standard developments in Europe. Designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) for Urbanest and built by Mace, the pioneering scheme comprises three Passivhaus-certified student accommodation buildings and a BREEAM Outstanding commercial building, setting new benchmarks for sustainable urban design and energy performance.

As part of this highly technical and phased construction programme, Swift Crafted played a key role during the testing phase which ensures that all building components were installed to meet the strict performance requirements of the Passivhaus Standard. This involved rigorous air-tightness testing at every stage of the build, with components and building sections independently assessed as works progressed to ensure full compliance ahead of final certification.

Given the sensitivity of the testing process, our team frequently worked out of hours to minimise disruption to other trades during air-sealing operations and testing periods. Prior to starting on site, Swift Crafted undertook specialist Passivhaus training, and throughout the project collaborated closely with BSRIA and Henriksen Studios to fully understand and implement the technical parameters of the system.

This project provided invaluable experience in the delivery of low-energy, high-performance buildings, reinforcing Swift Crafted’s commitment to sustainable construction and precision workmanship. The knowledge gained will continue to inform our contribution to projects supporting the industry’s ongoing drive toward Net Zero carbon targets.
