Project Description
Hampshire Constabulary Police Investigation Centre is a brand-new facility providing an enhanced service for Portsmouth and the surrounding areas. It was designed to become the Police hub for the county, with office space for 350 professionals and incorporating a 36-cell custody block with specialist facilities and equipment.
Swift Crafted led the carpentry and joinery package under a Design and Build Sub-Contract Agreement (DBSub/A2011). A relatively small but efficient team of 3-4 carpenters worked alongside our management team to produce high-quality installations.
Swift Crafted sub-contracted specialist custody firms to install government-tested and approved products such as cell doors, holding cells, and custody desks. All works were subject to thorough snagging by the Police Search Advisors Team (POLSA).
Scope of Works
Joinery & Fit-out:
- Timber Doorsets
- Metal Doorsets

- Bespoke Joinery (Reception Desks, Counters and Storage Units)

Challenges & Solutions
The most challenging element of the project was the installation of 9 glass panels to the atrium, each weighing 350kg. There were numerous other trades working in this area of the site, but our strategic planning and implementation of rigorous safety measures ensured the installation was successful.
Hampshire Constabulary Police Investigation Centre will offer essential everyday support for the community, ensuring safety and protection for those in the area.
“The client is delighted with what we as a team have delivered…”
“Just wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you and your teams for their support, effort and diligence over the last 1.5 years. The client is delighted with what we as a team have delivered for them and this is replicated in the SCF Gateway scores they have given us, which would not have been possible without you.”
